Anne Cowman: Oil Painting

When I was 10 years old, my best friend and I started a summer arts camp for the neighborhood kids. We spent afternoons playing with all sorts of art materials at my mom’s kitchen table. That was when I decided I wanted to be a teacher. After attending Tufts University, I began teaching as an elementary teacher. Later, I was able to combine both my loves and became an art teacher. During this time, I was also silkscreening and painting designs for the juvenile market. Many of these won the Parent’s Choice Award and were featured in the book The Perfect Home by Joseph Carroll and on the television show Extreme Makeover - Home Edition.

Over the years, I have experimented with many different mediums and techniques: block printing, silkscreening, monotype, batik, quilting, needlepoint canvas design, and acrylic painting. Five years ago, I began painting with oils. I love it! Each canvas presents a new challenge and the possibility of sharing the beauty around me.
