Susan Hershey ~ Ceramics
Rocky Neck Gallery - 53 Rocky Neck Ave., Gloucester 978-282-0917
The wood kiln is fired four or five times a year. Firings take
anywhere from 15 to 25 hours to complete and require constant feeding
of the fire. Although, wood firings produce mostly earth-toned pottery,
Susan also uses high-fire glazes to obtain color. Some of the markings
on the pots are a result of wood ash from the fire that swirls around
inside the kiln during the firing. Susan has studied with and been
influenced by Phil Rogers, Jack Troy, Malcolm Davis, among others.
She studied at Mass College of Art and with local potter Cynthia
Curtis.
Her studio, Pigeon Cove Pottery, is located in Rockport, where
she lives with her two Golden Retrievers and her cat.
