Rocky Neck Art Colony provides opportunities for artists to exhibit and grow at America's oldest working art colony in Gloucester, MA. From juried exhibitions and independently curated shows to an artist award for Gloucester creators, we support emerging and established artists in showcasing their work and advancing their practice.

Types of Opportunities

Submit work for themed exhibitions at the Cultural Center. Open calls welcome artists in all media to participate in professionally curated shows with opening receptions, promotional support, and sales opportunities.

Curate your own show at our Cultural Center or Cove Gallery. We accept proposals from groups and individuals for independently organized exhibitions. RNAC members and New England artists are encouraged to apply.

The Goetemann Gloucester Artist Award provides a $1,000 stipend to Gloucester artists for a month-long intensive studio practice, including public programming and open studio events.

It depends on the opportunity. Some exhibitions are open to all artists, while others require RNAC membership or include at least one member in group proposals. Membership requirements are specified in each call. To learn about membership, visit our membership page.

We welcome all media, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, fiber arts, installation, video, and time-based work. Space considerations may apply for large-scale or installation pieces—contact exhibitions@rockyneckartcolony.org if you have questions about your work.

Each opportunity has its own review process. Juried exhibitions are evaluated by our Exhibitions Committee or invited jurors. Proposals are reviewed for thematic cohesion, artistic quality, and alignment with our programming goals.

Costs vary by opportunity. Juried exhibitions have entry fees (typically $10-$35). Exhibition proposals have weekly gallery fees ranging from $75-$150 depending on the space. The Goetemann Artist Award has no application fee. All details are included in individual calls.
