Need a jumpstart to your art making? 

Diving in to explore the nature of your creative process and your own unique creativity is the focus of this two-day class. Artist and teacher Loren Doucette will help you submerge yourself in the materials that you choose and speak to you most to find what lifts and drives your practice again. 

Through seeing and deep listening, you will gain clarity on practices that work best for you at this time. Participants are encouraged to work from imagery and subject matter that genuinely excites them. You can draw inspiration from the outdoor landscape, work on figurative work or flowers and still life, for example. 

Work realistically or abstractly or a combination. This is a time to try new things and experiment or to start a new series. As a group, we will seek that freedom of expression that allows for true discovery. 

You will be supported by instructor Doucette who will speak to the group each morning with inspiring notes from her workshops with Tim Hawksworth and La La Zeitlyn, and she will work with each artist throughout each individual's process. 

Materials Supply List (depending on your choices):

• If you are working in Watercolor

  • Good quality watercolor paper (Arches is a great option)

  • Masking tape

  • You can tape your paper to a drawing board or use a watercolor block

  • Variety of watercolors and brushes

  • Pencil and eraser

  • Paper towels

• If you are working in Acrylic

  • Your choice: Canvas, gessoed wood panel, gessoed paper clipped to drawing board

  • Variety of acrylic paints and brushes

  • Acrylic medium or extender (optional)- It extends drying time

  • Big container for water

  • Paper towels

  • Charcoal

• If you are working in Chalk or Oil Pastel

  • Good strong paper for pastel use (best if pre-treated with pastel ground)

  • For oil pastel, a good strong paper or a heavy mixed-media paper should work

  • Bulldog clips and a drawing board

  • Wide variety of chalk pastel colors, darks and lights, specially greens, yellows, blues, whites and neutrals

  • Hard pastels (Nu pastels) 

  • Medium pastels 

  • Soft pastels

• If you are working in Oil Pastel

  • Good strong paper for oil pastel use- a heavy mixed media paper should work

  • Bull Dog Clips and a Drawing Board

  • Wide variety of oil pastel colors, darks and lights

  • Especially greens, yellows, blues, whites and neutrals
